October 2007 - The Firm successfully defended a party in Federal Court in a case in which the Federal Government brought suit against the Firm's client seeking to recover over $1,900,000.
The Firm negotiated a settlement in which the Government received only a token settlement representing less than 1% of the Government's claim.
October 2007 - The Firm won a case for a plaintiff involving claims of slander and identity theft. On the eve of trial Firm's client received a confidential settlement and prospective injunctive relief.
August 2007 - The Firm obtained a judgment against a defendant in an investment fraud case, in the amount of $253,000 which included actual and punitive damages.
August 2007 - The Firm defended the sellers of an Orange County business in a case in which the plaintiff alleged fraud and breach of contract, and achieved a settlement on the eve of trial in which the plaintiff received nothing.
July 2007 - Messrs. Buffington and Kennedy successfully defended a large Ohio lending institution in a one-day trial in a breach of contract action.
June 2007 - The Firm forced a favorable settlement for its client in a multi-million dollar real estate dispute by bringing Motion for Summary Judgment in the action.
Spring 2007 - The Firm won a securities investment case for its client and obtained a judgment in the amount of $107,000.
Update: During 2007 Buffington Law Firm has been successful in negotiating confidential settlements on behalf of numerous California citizens against claims by governmental Toll Road agencies including the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA).
March 2007 - Successfully represented three parties in a professional malpractice case and negotiated a confidential settlement.

October 2006 - The Firm served as co-counsel representing a plaintiff in an employment case involving allegations of sexual harassment, retaliation, and related causes. The case settled under terms that are confidential.
August 2006 - In non-binding mediation the Firm negotiated a settlement highly favorable to its clients of a lawsuit involving a Trust dispute concerning several large land parcels with an estimated value of over $1 million.
July 2006 - The Firm defended a Residential Care Facility for the Elderly against claims of elder abuse, fraud, and negligence against a plaintiff who was represented by one of the best-known plaintiff elder abuse law firms in California. After winning several discovery-related motions against the plaintiff, including an award of sanctions, in mediation the Firm negotiated a token settlement of the case that was far less than the estimated cost of defense.
In March 2006 the Firm represented a corporate client in a professional mediation of an unfair competition case in which the plaintiff sought significant damages and injunctive relief against the Firm's client. At the mediation, the Firm successfully negotiated a conclusion to the dispute that involved only a minor cost to the Firm's client and no injunctive relief.
In October 2005 the Firm represented a major international golf equipment distributor and its two principal officers in a corporate breach of contract and fraud dispute in which the plaintiff sought damages of over $200,000. After a one week trial, the plaintiff abandoned most of its claim prior to verdict and settled its remaining claims out of court for a token sum.
In February 2005 Mr. Buffington won an award of $830,000 for his client in an NASD binding arbitration against Merrill Lynch and one of its brokers.
During 2002-2005 the Firm represented several groups of investors who were suing for damages in several related investment fraud cases, and successfully negotiated substantial settlements with the defendants' insurance companies.
In 2004 the Firm won a $110,000 arbitration award against a defendant in an investment dispute involving fiduciary negligence.
In September 2004 Mr. Buffington's article in the University of Southern California Law School Interdisciplinary Law Journal "A Proposed Standard of Common Law Liability for the Public Accounting Profession" was cited by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants in a brief before the United States Supreme Court.
In February 2004 the Firm prevailed in a three week jury trial in which it defended ten persons accused of assault, battery, and false imprisonment.
